Calling Our Next Pastor

When Pastor Doug announced his plan to retire in 2027, Woodside’s leaders chose to pursue a seamless transition. Our desire is to avoid a loss of momentum during a lengthy interim between pastors. We also want to facilitate the transfer of trust and leadership from our current pastor, who has served here 32 years, to the future pastor. The length and steps in the succession will be worked out with the incoming pastor. We want to give our new pastor the best possible launch for a long and fruitful ministry.

Steps in the search process

(As of June 2026, we are currently on Step 7)

  1. Pastor Doug Announces to the Presbytery and Congregation his plan to Retire 
  2. Interview Pastoral Search Firms – Hire Vanderbloemen and Associates
  3. Create and Submit a Mission Study of Woodside to the Presbytery for Approval
  4. Elect and Train the Pastor Nominating Team (PNT)
  5. Create and Submit the Ministry Discernment Profile (MDP) to the Presbytery for Approval
  6. Upload the MDP to the Presbyterian Church Leadership Connection (CLC). Our Position is now officially open and ready to receive candidates.
  7. Vanderbloemen contacts potential Candidates and evaluates those who apply.
  8. Vanderbloemen presents Candidates to the Pastor Nominating Team
  9. Pastor Nominating Team evaluates and interviews Candidates.
  10. Pastor Nominating Team selects the Nominee.
  11. Presbytery gives approval
  12. Nominee preaches at a worship service and is elected at a Congregational Meeting.
  13. Woodside holds an installation service for its new Pastor.
